(ENGLISH)
The scribble game (as I call it) for me has its origins in my childhood. I don’t know where I got the idea, but I always remember doing this as a hobby. Any stroke on a sheet of paper was enough to make me start to turn it into something.
For me, one of the greatest pleasures of creating art is the surprise factor; to be surprised by a newly created image without a plan or preliminary idea. Whatever technique is used, this method is possible.
When I paint with acrylics or oils, I find depths in the contrast of colours that bring me to define shapes, and out of this come the motifs subsequently visible in any of my paintings.

So, since the end of September 2019 my mother’s health has deteriorated significantly and ever since then she has needed more and more support.
From then til now a series of events have taken place (directly related to my mother’s life) out of my control that have been demanding my time and energy in an exponential way.
It´s always said that these kind of circumstances help to build resilience and patience but I can say from my own experience that it doesn’t just happen naturally. It takes a great deal of work.
As life seems to be piling one on top of the next complication to the situation, I feel I can´t just be dealing with the short term circumstances. I need to stop at each level and reevaluate to take the next decision. If I don´t do this I become angry and frustrated though lack of understanding.

I´m sharing all that because it directly affects my artistic life. Before these circumstances began to affect me I spent a large part of my time painting. Between September 2019 and December 2021 I still found time to be able to paint and I was mainly developing the labyrinths of the book I want to publish, La Serendava.
Since the beginning of this year 2022, I have hardly been able to paint at all. I have done some very small craft commissions but in general, my windows of time to dedicate to art are usually less than two hours long. I don’t even have time to get started and that’s why I want to highlight something I’ve been doing every day since the end of last summer.

In the little notebook I carry everywhere, where I draw and write, last year, while on duty in the northern area of the Fire Brigade of Ibiza, in my free time, I turned scribbles into drawings. Several colleagues from my brigade made me a scribble form me and I turned them into imaginary animals. I was struck by how interested each person was in finding out what their doodle had turned into. The thing grew to include the rest of the staff at work and little by little the notebook became a compendium of strange animals. Every day I did at least one in a little while, and if I found time for more, I could do more.
The fact is that this little exercise, so simple in appearance, is so powerful. I now realise how much it´s giving me and I value it. It´s a moment where I to get out of my routine, to be surprised by something unexpected (and often makes me laugh).

Now that I’ve been doing this exercise for almost a year now, Now that
Now that I’ve created more than 300 different characters,
Now that each one of those scribbles has been made by a different person.
Now that I don’t have time to paint pictures
I place a very high value on the power of this exercise.
I don’t know what I will do with the contents of these five notebooks.
It’s not a product to sell
Nor are they great works of art
But they have a great meaning for me
They hold a great value
They represent an example of resilience
Adaptability in practice.

I feel, at the moment, (on the one hand) trapped or imprisoned by my circumstances, deprived of certain freedoms I used to enjoy.

In this exercise I have found my direct access to my”time out of time”space.
Access to this state is pure, revitalising.

Initially I set it as a daily challenge for a whole year.
Now, I have decided that I don’t want to stop for the year. I will continue with it, at least until I can paint again on a regular basis.

It is an exercise that allegorically also has power.
To turn whatever life offers you into something.
When one can´t choose the circumstances.
When one has to work with what comes, steadily and persistently.
A doodle becomes a being with its own personality.
